Public evaluation version
it’s more than one year since I’ve released the D’Pinga instrument series. In the meantime I’ve been developing the Tentacle Player.
Tentacle is a sample player that uses the same engine as the former D’Pinga instruments but can load all PulpoAudio sample bins (instruments). So instead of having an AU/VST plug-in for each instrument, now there is only one.
New main features in comparism to the old D’Pinga instruments are:
- Multiple output buses.
Up to 8 stereo outs. Depending on the instrument, you can route several strokes/stroke groups to individual outputs.
- Pattern player and editor.
Playback rhythmic patterns and it’s variants by pressing a few keyswitches.
Record/Edit your own patterns.
Basic set of patterns available for each of the here presented instruments.
There are two new instruments available:
- D’Pinga2 Tambora (free)
- D’Pinga2 Guira (free)
(…suitable for Merengue/Bachata music…. find download links in “Instruments” section below)
And you’ll find for download new “PMO”-versions of the former D’Pinga instruments (Congas,Bongo,Timbal,Guiro), that have the PatternPlayer- and MultiOutput- features enabled (find download links in “Instruments” section below).

Please take into account that this “Public Evaluation”-version does not pretend to be a final product. I’d like to gather opinions, comments, critisism and learn for future development. I’d be happy to receive your thoughts about Tentacle in general, and specifically about the PatternPlayer feature which works well for me but may be not good enough/too complicated/too whatever or of no use at all for other users.
Yes, Tentacle, as well as the instruments presented on this page have been tested…as thoroughly as I can do this as a single developer. I can’t guarantee that it’ll work properly in your DAW. It does in:
- Logic X (10.3.3)
- Cubase LE9
Both are 64 bit; there are no 32 bit versions of Tentacle available, so it won’t work on older 32 bit DAWs.
Finally, everything presented on this page is for free. However, if you don’t feel like (yes, in fact!) testing this AU/VST and instead expect a rock-stable, full-featured and finalized product for free ….. don’t download this.
Download Tentacle Player
Tentacle player has been developed using the JUCE (Grapefruit) library and has been release under the GPL3 license.
Download the instruments ZIP files (links above).
Unzip the ZIP file and move the containing .bin and .ptn files to the corresponding folder for your operating system (same folder where the AU/VST plugins are located):
Please refer also to Tentacle: where to install all the files
These instrument bins have been created by Rudi Leitner (PulpoAudio). All the contained sounds are original recordings. You may use the sounds in private as well as in commercial musical works.
